Hoover Lovelace Parker

Hoover Lovelace Parker, 91, of East Brewton, died Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Mr. Parker was born June 29, 1928, in Escambia County, Ala. A 1946 graduate of W.S. Neal HIgh School, he opened Big Bear Supermarket in East Brewton in 1966, later known as Parker’s Super Foods, which operated for more than 35 years. In 1964, he became a member of the East Brewton City Council and served until 1972. Elected mayor of East Brewton in 1980, he served two terms, from 1980 to 1988. In 1988, he was elected to the Escambia County Commission, where he served until 1996.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 4, at Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton with Rev. George Weaver officiating. Burial followed with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Lynetta M. Parker of East Brewton; one son, Michael (Virginia) Parker of East Brewton; one daughter, Jan Parker (John) Kinard of Daphne, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ashton Parker; one son, Terry Ashton Parker; three brothers, Seals Parker, W.C. Parker and Billie H. Parker; and five sisters, Brooks Overstreet, Tallie Bethea, Jean Kirkland, Bonnie Robinson and Kate Parker.
