County has 32 cases of virus

Two COVID deaths

In its bi-weekly update on the COVID-19 pandemic released Tuesday, the Escambia County (Ala.) Health Care Authority reported there have been 32 confirmed cases of the virus in the county and two confirmed deaths.

Statistics from Atmore Community Hospital show 24 confirmed cases. At the Atmore hospital 298 people have been tested and 254 had negative results. There are 19 tests pending and one death with inconclusive results of COVID-19.

There have been four confirmed cases at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton and no deaths due to the virus reported. At the Brewton hospital, 171 people have been tested and 161 showed negative results. Test results are pending on six individuals.

Jason Daniel, director of public affairs and marketing for the health care authority said some conflicting numbers in the county are due to how the cases are tracked by the Alabama Department of Public Health. He noted if someone who is not a resident of Escambia County is tested at either of the county's hospitals those figures are reported to the person's home county.

Tuesday's report showed Alabama now has 8,120 confirmed COVID-19 cases out of 105,083 tests. There have also been 310 confirmed deaths.
