Food to be given away in the area

In an effort to assist families with meals during the mandated stay-at-home in response to the COVID 19 pandemic, area churches, municipalities and other organizations are offering free food and meal giveaways.

Atmore

Beginning at 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, and every Friday, kids will receive a free sack lunch at the Atmore Farmers Market, across the street from Atmore City Hall. The child must be present and there will be 300 meals available, given out until they are gone.

Grace Fellowship in partnership with Feeding the Gulf Coast, will offer 200 meals on a first come, first serve basis, starting at 11 a.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Drive-thru pick up only; the child must be in the vehicle to receive a meal; for children 18 years of age and younger; and meals include a breakfast and a lunch.

Brewton

Starting at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 30, the town of Brewton, in partnership with New Beginnings Worship Center and Pensacola Caring Hearts, will host a food giveaway at New Beginnings, located at 717 St. Nicholas Ave. in Brewton. Drive-thru pick up only.

Century

Starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30, the town of Century will offer food for families through Farm Share for drive thru pick up only at the Century Business Center, located at 150 Pond St. Family member must be present for family picking up.

Flomaton

Starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 2, at the Flomaton Community Center, located on McCurdy Street, the town of Flomaton will be giving away food. Drive-thru pick up only.

Jay

The Council On Aging is offering free to-go meals for adults age 60 or over at the Jay Community Center located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay, at the Chumuckla Community Center located at 2355 Highway 182 West in Chumuckla and at the Bagdad Community Center located at 6860 Pooley St. in Bagdad by calling (850) 432-1475 by 12 (noon) the day before to reserve a meal, Monday through Friday. No income or disability qualifications are required.

King's Harvest Church offers food for residents of Santa Rosa or Escambia Counties in Florida, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays, located at 14031 South Alabama St. Jay. This is a regular pantry operation and not the large giveaway.

East Brewton

From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays at W.S. Neal Middle School, 703 Williamson St., Backpack Buddies is giving multiple meals and snacks for children, curb side service only. The child must be present.
