In its bi-weekly COVID-19 update released Tuesday, the Escambia County (Ala.) Healthcare Authority announced there have been 10 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the county and no deaths reported.
The report states that the 10 positive tests in the county were county residents out of 165 county residents tested. There has been one positive test reported from D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton and nine from Atmore Community Hospital. However, the two hospitals have tested 262 individuals.
Jason Daniel, director of public affairs and marketing for the health care authority, said the difference in the testing numbers is due to people not living in Escambia County, Ala., being tested at the county's two hospitals. Those county test numbers are reported back to the county where the person lives.
Statewide, the report showed of 28,656 people tested, 3,803 have tested positive and there have been 103 deaths associated with COVID-19.
Daniel also said both hospitals and the Flomaton Medical Center are in need of hand-sewn masks. Anyone wishing to make masks can contact Bud Gideons in Atmore at 251-359-6523, Robin Griffin in Brewton at 251-363-1860 or Wanda Vanlandingham in Flomaton at 251-609-0827.
The health care authority is also asking people in the community to donate other items as well that include isolation gowns, non-sterile and impervious; masks: surgical, procedure, ear loop, ear loop with a face mask shield or fog-free procedure masks; latex gloves: exam, nitrile or chemo; and hand sanitizer: 70 percent ethyl alcohol.
Anyone wishing to donate these items can contact Brad Lowery in Atmore at 251-368-6215 or Bob Ellis in Brewton at 251-809-8318.
