Leonard Lynn Peevy, 88, of Brewton, died Friday, April 3, 2020, in a local nursing facility following a brief illness.
Mr. Peevy was born Sept. 10, 1931, to Grover Cleveland and Mamie Lynn Peevy, in Escambia County, Ala., where he was a lifelong resident. A member of the Brewton First Baptist Church, he was a 1950 graduate of W.S. Neal High School who served in the U.S. Army working in the Veterans Affairs Office for more than 14 years during the Korean Conflict and Berlin Crisis. State Commander of the American Legion, he was recognized by the 113th House of Representatives for more than 60 years of service to the American Legion and retired as tax collector with 12 years of service from Escambia County.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 6, at Union Cemetery in Brewton with Rev. Ron Headley and Dr. Jimmy Adkisson officiating. Burial followed with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Peevy is survived by his wife, Lucille Brooks Peevy of Brewton; one son, Carl (Jan) Peevy of Jacksonville, Ala.; three daughters, Debra Mullis of Brewton, Pam (Jimmy) Crenshaw of Excel, Ala. and Susan (Frank) Carroll of Greenwich, Conn.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 12 nephews and nieces.
Mr. Peevy was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers.
