The Escambia County (Ala.) Health Care Authority announced Tuesday that there have been three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Escambia County with no deaths reported.

Jason Daniels, director of public affairs and marketing, said the health care authority will release COVID-19 updates each Tuesday and Friday.

The report, as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, stated the three confirmed cases in Escambia County came from 84 specimens collected. Across Alabama there have been 2,168 confirmed cases out of 14,765 tested with 39 confirmed deaths.

Daniels also said D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton and Atmore Community Hospital in Atmore are in need of supplies and is asking the community to make donations if possible.

Daniels said the hospitals are in need of isolation gowns: non sterile, impervious; masks: surgical, ear loop with face shield, or fog-free procedure masks; latex gloves: exam, nitrile or chemo; and hand sanitizer: 70 percent ethyl alcohol.

To make donations, contact Brad Lowery in Atmore at 251-368-6215 or Bob Ellis in Brewton at 251-809-8318.

On April 2, the health care authority announced it had received notification from the Alabama Department of Public Health of the second positive result for COVID-19 in the county. The health care authority announced that the patient's sample was not collected at either of the hospitals in the county.

The authority did received notification of a positive test from someone tested at Atmore Community Hospital. The person who tested positive was not a resident of the county and the positive test result would be forwarded and reported by the Alabama Department of Public Health in the patient's home county.
