Community reaches out during Coronavirus

As communities and citizens observe the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for diminishing the spread of the Coronavirus through social distancing and various closings, school systems and municipalities are continuing programs and using resources to ensure children and others who depend on free or reduced meals continue to receive them during this time. Escambia County School Systems in Alabama and Florida as well as the Century Mayor Henry Hawkins and Concerned Citizens of Century are providing meals free.

Century mayor and citizens

Century Mayor Henry Hawkins has partnered with some concerned Century citizens to provide hot breakfast meals from 10 a.m. until at the Century Business Center, located at 400 E. Pond St., Monday through Friday until school resumes.

Mayor Hawkins said concern for the children and senior citizens prompted the partnership.

“We want to take care of our youth and senior citizens,” said Hawkins. “We will serve anyone who is hungry and wants something to eat. Our main focus was to make sure the youth and seniors have enough during this time.”
