Couple passes fake bills

A Brewton man and his wife were arrested Sunday and charged with possession of a forged instrument after Brewton Police found them in possession of $1,200 in counterfeit $100 bills after the two allegedly tried to pass the bills off at at least two Brewton businesses.

Jackson Herald Crutchfield, 27, 180 Smallwood Lane, and his wife Haley Crutchfield, 24, same address, appeared before District Judge Eric Coale Monday afternoon and were both given bonds of $50,000.

During the bond hearing, Assistant District Attorney Todd Stearns told Judge Coale that Jackson Crutchfield had four prior felonies and was on probation at the time of the most recent arrest. Stearns also said law enforcement officers said this wasn't the first time the two had passed fake money and it is now an on-going federal investigation.

Jackson Crutchfield told the judge nobody had him on camera anywhere.
