Caught on school's camera

Six people arrested for tresspassing at Byrneville Elementary

Six people who were caught on surveillance cameras at Byrneville Elementary School trespassing and causing property damage now face charges of trespassing, as one suspect faces a felony property damage charge.

Damage of $2,500 to an awning at Burneville Elementary School in early January led investigators to arrest two from Century, three from Flomaton and one from Atmore, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office report.

Brandon Kyle Jones, 20, 1503 Gilmore Road, Century, was arrested Feb. 6 and charged with one count misdemeanor trespassing and one county felony property damage when surveillance cameras at the school caught Jones and five other suspects arrive at the school grounds in December and Jones as he climbed onto the awning and caused the damage.

Try Samuel Morris, 19, 260 Greenwood Lane, Flomaton, Levi Dalton Wagner, 19, 1470 Byrneville Road, Century, Grayson Dayne Stafford, 20, 5901 Sardis Church Road, Atmore, Ashley Marie Walther, 19, 2498 Old Atmore Road, Flomaton and Alexandria Brooke Lambeth, 19, 6407 Upper Creek Road, Flomaton, were arrested in early February and charged with misdemeanor trespassing on school grounds, the report said.

When officers responded to possible criminal mischief complaint at the school they observed the surveillance footage and witnessed a golf cart with four males and a white vehicle with two females pull into the school's parking lot. The individuals then climbed onto the roof of the school and one of the males jumped onto an awning, which caused it to fall through. All the individuals at that time left the area, the report stated.

Officers were informed by a concerned anonymous citizen the possible name and address of the individual who drives the golf cart, which was suspect Jones. Officers went to the address to question Jones and observed the golf cart sitting in the driveway.

A next-door neighbor then informed the officers that no one was at the address at the moment and that Jones had left for Texas to go to work.

Further investigation uncovered the names of the other five individuals in the surveillance footage. When officers questioned them individually, each said that as the six of them were hanging out together, someone suggested, "Let's go climb on the roof of the school."

According to the report, when they arrived at the school and climbed on the roof, they heard a noise as Jones fell through the awning, at which time they all left the area.

All the suspects were arrested between Feb. 5 and 6 and transported to Escambia County Jail in Pensacola. Jones was given a bond of $1,000. None of the other suspects were given bonds.
