Jay native to speak at historical meeting

Everyone is invited to the next general monthly meet- ing of the Jay Historical Society at 6 p.m., tonight, Thursday, January 9, at the Jay Museum on Highway 4 . The guest speaker will be J.J. Scott, a native of Jay and a 2000 graduate of Jay High School.

Scott, who is AIA, LEED, AP BD and C certified, is cur- rently the president and prin- cipal architect of MLD Architects, a 39-year-old firm based in Tallahassee that spe-

cializes in roofing, water- proofing, commercial and institutional renovations, and historic preservation.

Scott earned a bachelor of architectural studies in 2005 and a master of architecture from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 2007. He joined his firm, MLD Architects, as an intern in 2005, and became a licensed architect in 2012 and later, owner of the firm in 2015.

Scott has specialized in historic preservation for 13 years and has worked on some of the state’s most prominent historic buildings,

including the Historic Florida Capitol Building, the Call-Collins House at The Grove Museum and the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. His firm has won 13 Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation awards, 10 Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Awards and two Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects awards including the People’s Choice award for his firm’s work on the Call-Collins House, where they received more than 2.5 million votes.

Over the years, Scott has served on multiple munici-

pal, non-profit youth sports and religious boards and committees in his local area. Currently he serves as a board member for the Tallahassee Architectural Review Board and the Florida

Trust

Preservation and is vice-pres- ident of the Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Scott and his wife of 16 years, Rachel, currently live with their four children on a farm in Monticello, Florida.
