George Walder Scogin

George Walder Scogin, 84, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, in Pensacola following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Scogin grew up in Bay Minette, where he played football and was senior class president of Baldwin County High School. He began working for Thompson's Fine Fashions at age 11 and in the mid 60's, he became manager of Thompson's in Atmore, which he managed until he retired in the early 1990's. He later worked for Harold Allen Mobile Homes and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atmore, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. Active in many civic organizations, including Atmore Lions Club, the downtown merchants' association, the Atmore Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees, where he held multiple offices, he attended Woodbine United Methodist Church in Pace, Fla.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Johnson Quimby Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Scogin is survived by one son, Mike (Johnna) Scogin of Georgetown, Ky.; three daughters, Becky Hetrick of Crestview, Fla., Gail (Park) Young of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Cindy (Sean) Harigel of Pace; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Scogin was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ann Scogin; his parents, George McLeod and Mertice Scogin; one brother, William “Bill” Scogin; and other family members.
