Food, entertainment and fireworks display
The blueberry won't drop but Brewton will welcome in the New Year Dec. 31 with plenty of food, entertainment and of course fireworks at midnight when the calendar turns from 2019 to 2020.
The Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Brewton will host an evening of food and music under a big white tent in the parking lot at Camp 31. Local musicians will begin at 6 p.m.
Bobby Moore and the Rhythm Aces will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. and Kirk Jay, a finalist on 'The Voice' will perform from 10:30 p.m. until the first burst of fireworks at midnight.
Food trucks will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs outside and Camp 31 will be open inside.
The Hourglass will also be hosting a New Year's Eve event beginning at 6 p.m. with cocktails (a paid bar) on the second story from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Seating for dinner inside the Hourglass will begin at 7 p.m. with dinner served at 7:30.
The cost is $50 per person with proceeds going to local charities that include Paw Crossed, Drexel and Honeybee's and the Escambia County Child Advocacy Center.
The menu will include shrimp cocktail and grilled oysters; filet of beef and broiled grouper; choice of house salad or Caesar salad; and a desert of Creme Brule or New York Cheesecake.
