William Robert Carter

William Robert Carter, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, in Repton, Ala., after a brief illness.

Mr. Carter was born to William Robert, Sr. and Alice Caine Carter in Repton. He graduated from Marion Military Institute and attended Emory University, later transferring to the University of Alabama. During World War II, he worked as a mechanic, using his knowledge of farm equipment to repair the engines on the submarine chasers patrolling the Eastern seaboard and the Panama Canal. He later began selling farm equipment and automobiles, founding Carter Truck and tractor Company in Monroeville in 1952. In 1977, his son, William, joined him in the business and both retired in 2014 when he sold the company.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2, at Repton Baptist Church with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Carter is survived by two sons, William Robert (Terri Busby) Carter, III, of Repton and James Franklin Carter of Mountain Brook, Ala .; one sister, Alice Carter Holmes of Fairhope, Ala.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Lazenby Carter; his parents; one brother, John Carson Carter of Mountain Brook; and one sister, Anne Carter Irvine of Fairhope.
