Flomaton senior best ever with 35 score
Academic success continues at Flomaton High School following the school's first 'A' on the state report card with senior Alex Glidewell making the highest score on the ACT test in the school's history with a 35.
ACT stands for American College Testing, which is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. The highest possible score is 36.
FHS Principal Scott Hammond said Glidewell's 35 is the highest score any Flomaton student has ever scored on the test.
"It's outstanding," Hammond said. "It's a privilege to be a principal of these students and to teach these students. It's good for the entire school."
Glidewell is a member of the FHS marching band, concert band and jazz band. He also serves as secretary of the BETA Club and is a member of FBLA.
Hammond noted last year Glidewell won the Mike Tedder Math Tournament at Coastal Alabama Community College.
"He's a leader in the band and he's a leader in the classroom," Hammond said. "You don't have to tell him what to do because he will just do it. He has great study habits and is well prepared for college."
He also helps tutor other students at the school.
Glidewell said he plans on attending the University of Alabama next year and major in psychology.
Glidewell said he had no idea he had scored so high on the ACT until the test results came in.
"I was just trying to raise my score a little bit but wasn't expecting that high," Glidewell said.
He said the 35 came on the third try after scoring a 32 the first time and a 33 the second.
