Century man faces charge

A Century man stopped in Pensacola last Sunday for a shattered windshield faces a felony charge for marijuana.

Charles Lashon Kyles, 30, 9450 Old Flomaton Road, was traveling in the area of Massachussetts Ave. and Montclair Road in Pensacola when he was observed by a law enforcement officer to be operating his 2018 Nissan Altima on the road with a shattered windshield, according to an Escambia County Sheriff's office report.

A law enforcement officer conducted a traffic stop of the Nissan and made contact with the driver, identified as Kyles, and explained the reason for the stop. Kyles told the officer he was aware the windshield was shattered and that he was working on getting it repaired, the report said.

A K9 officer arrived on scene and told the other officer that his K9 had alerted on the vehicle during a narcotics check in the past, the report stated.

A search of the vehicle revealed residue of marijuana on the floorboard along with ripped clear plastic baggies. A search of suspect Kyles revealed a clear plastic baggie containing marijuana, the report noted.

The search also revealed a clear plastic baggie that contained 9 multi-colored circular pills that field-tested positive for MDMA (Ecstasy). A partially smoked marijuana cigarette was also located on Kyles' left front pants pocket, the report stated.

Kyles was arrested and charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and transported to Escambia County Jail. Kyles was given a total bond of $3,500.
