Barbara Jean “Bobbie Jean” Hicks Ries, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019.
Mrs. Ries was born April 25, 1937 to Sam and Gladys Hicks in Century. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1955 and graduated with an associate of the arts degree from Southwestern Christian College in 1957.
The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Pilgrim Lodge Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Steward officiating. Burial followed at Century Cemetery with Jackson-McMurray Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Ries is survived by one brother, Pete (Alberta) Hicks of Boston; one sister, Bettye Hicks of Boston; one son, Dewey L. (Volante) Henderson, III of Augusta, Ga.; four daughters, Valerie Neilly of Pensacola, Gina Jones of Los Angeles Veta Jones Griffin of Shreveport, La. and Arvanetes (Nolan) Redmond of Walnut Hill. Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members and friends.
