Local festivities set to kick off Oct. 24

Area family-friendly fall festivities will kick off Thursday, Oct. 24, in downtown Flomaton and continue Saturday, Oct. 26 at Turtle Point and then wrap up on Halloween in Century and Jay.

Flomaton High School will host its Harvest Festival and various churches and organizations will host Trick or Treat in the Street from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, in downtown Flomaton. Booths will be set up offering games and candy and various organizations and churches will have candy available.

Turtle Point Science Center will hold a Fall Family Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event will be outside with a cupcake walk, raffle tickets, costume contest with prizes and other activities.

The town of Jay will have Trick or Treat on Commerce Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be a Kid's Costume Contest at 6:30 p.m. Trick or treat booths open at 5 p.m. Any youth group or organization interested in hosting a booth can stop by or contact Jay City Hall at 850-675-4556.

The Century Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Century will host Trunk or Treat from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, at Showalter Park.

Local businesses, churches, organizations and families are encouraged to bring their little ghosts and goblins out to enjoy family-friendly fun, including a Pumpkin Contest and Kids' Costume Contest.

Bring your carved or decorated pumpkins to enter the Pumpkin Contest. Judges will be provided for carved pumpkins for ages 12 and up and decorated pumpkins for ages 3 to 11. There will prizes given to the top 3 in each category.

The Kids' Costume Contest will begin at 6 p.m. and the categories are ages 0 to 3; ages 4 to 7; and ages 8 to 12. There will be prizes awarded in each age category.

Guests are invited to park at Showalter Park and walk along the drive.
