Jay man faces drug charges

A Jay man is facing drug and weapon charges after authorities responded to a report of illegal narcotics being used under a bridge.

Jackie Blaine Rogers, 48, 6045 Highway 4, was later identified as the driver of a red pick-up truck reported to law enforcement to be using illegal narcotics parked under the bridge located just east of the intersection of McDaniels Road and Highway 4, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.

When the officer shined a light on the Rogers, Rogers made several movements as if he was hiding something or reaching for something. The report said when the officer ordered Rogers to put his hands up, Rogers reluctantly did, the report stated.

When Rogers was detained and identified, and the officer discovered a loaded .45 caliber revolver in his left front pocket and a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun sitting on the bench seat of the truck in plain view, according to the report.

The officer walked around the vehicle and looked through the passenger window and saw a clear glass pipe with a white residue sitting on the seat in plain view.

The officer spoke with Rogers and asked him if there were any other illegal items within the truck and Rogers would not say. The report said the officer searched the vehicle and a clear, plastic bag that contained methamphetamine was located inside a pack of cigarettes sitting on the bench seat right next to where Rogers had been siting initially.

Within the truck, a green ammo box was found that contained several bottles of medication prescribed to Rogers, the report said. When the officer asked Rogers if there were any pills in the box that did not belong or were not prescribed to Rogers, Rogers would not give the officer a straight answer and said he was unsure.

The officer identified several pills through drugs.com and found one pill was Methadone 10 mg, a controlled substance, the report said. Also within the green ammo box was an orange pill bottle with the label ripped off and within the bottle were 16 white round pills the officer discovered throught the website were Modafinil 200 mg, also a controlled substance.

Rogers was arrested and charged with three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony, the report said. Rogers was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail where he was given a bond of $25,500.
