Davis steps down as Flomaton police chief

Taking job with other law enforcement group

Bryan Davis, who has served as Flomaton's police chief since Nov. 1, 2013, will be stepping down on Oct. 4 to take a law enforcement position with a new agency.

Davis, 38, said he's enjoyed his years in Flomaton, but felt the new opportunity was a direction he needed to take.

Davis joined the Flomaton Police Department as a patrolman in April, 2013, and took over as chief on Nov. 1, 2013.

"It's not always been easy," Davis said. "I've learned a great amount of knowledge for the job, the people and politics."

Davis said the greatest gift is seeing the community not only support him but the entire police department.

"When we go to ball games people come up and shake our hands and tell us thank you," Davis said. "That doesn't happen everywhere."

"The thing I'll miss most is the people I see every day," he added.

Flomaton Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., said it's the responsibility of the mayor to name a police chief and bring that name to the council for a vote. He said Tuesday afternoon that he hoped to bring that name to the council table for a meeting that was scheduled for 4 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday).

A native of the Lenox community, Davis graduated from Excel High School and went to Emergency Medical Technician School. He began his law enforcement career in August, 1999, as a correctional officer and dispatcher for the Conecuh County Sheriff's Office.

He graduated from the police academy on Sept. 25, 2001, which was 18 years ago yesterday.

He served as a deputy for the Conecuh County Sheriff's Office until 2006 and served with the Brewton Police Department from 2006 to 2013. He came to Flomaton in 2013.

"I've accepted a job with another law enforcement agency," Davis said. "The citizens of Flomaton have been great to me and I truly appreciate it."
