Harigel arrested in Santa Rosa County on Felony charges involving attacks on his children
An Atmore doctor who lives in Molino was arrested July 25 and charged with two felony counts of battery when law enforcement responded to a disturbance complaint and found a physical altercation taking place between a father and his three children.
William Shane Harigel, 46, 5978 Quintette Road, Pace, was in a vehicle with his two daughters, Makyla and Makinley and son John returning home from Pensacola when Makayla and William got into an argument over a traffic ticket, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.
The report said the son told his father to calm down and that is when the father grabbed the son by the throat, which occurred in Escambia County (Fla.) just west of the Santa Rosa County line.
Daughter Makinley tried to stop her father from choking her brother and the father slapped MaKinley on the face, the report said.
Harigel parked his vehicle at the residence on Quintette Road and another physical altercation began, according to the report. Son John later told law enforcement that everyone exited the vehicle and his father started pushing and trying to punch him.
The report stated that Harigel then grabbed John and daughter Makayla and threw them both to the ground and Harigel then put his arm around the son's neck. John told law enforcement that he could not breathe and was unsure if he passed out, the report said.
John said his father 'slung' him around some more before the fight was broken up by someone who arrived on scene. John told law enforcement he had swelling on his left hand and a cut on his knee, according to the report.
Makayla told law enforcement the same as her brother and that she was pregnant and her father was aware of the pregnancy, the report said.
Makinley told law enforcement her father slapped her on the right side of her face when she tried to stop him from grabbing her brother around the neck. She also attempted to break up the second physical altercation by hitting her father with a shower rod, the report noted.
The officer said in his report that he witnessed a swollen place on the son's hand and small cut on his knee and that Makayla had a cut on her left hand and a red swollen place on her left forearm, the report said.
Harigel was arrested and charged with two felony counts of domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated battery domestic violence related and one count misdemeanor battery domestic violence related. He was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail with no bond.
