Traffic stop, warrant nets four arrests

An East Brewton traffic and subsequent house search ended in the arrest of four people on drug and warrant charges.

James Deangelo Williams, 31, 5990 Highway 41, Lot 2, East Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of marijuana I, distribution of a controlled substance and a felon being in possession of a firearm.

Christie Anita Bauldree, 38, 2950 Ridge Road, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crystal Selena Smith, 37, 5990 Highway 41, Lot 2 and Cassandra Michelle Quick Hunter, 36, 6587 Highway 29, Brewton were both charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

On July 5, East Brewton Sgt. Paige Howell and Coastal Alabama Community College Police Officer Mary Howell initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet pickup truck on Travis Road due to the passenger, Williams, having outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.

According to police reports, Officer Mary Howell placed Williams under arrest. Sgt. Paige Howell reported while talking with the driver (Bauldree) he noticed two pipes, used to smoke meth, on the ground beside her door. She denied knowledge of the pipes, but was arrested for being in constructive possession of the paraphernalia.

After Williams was placed into custody, officers reported a search of the immediate area was conducted and they found 12.9 grams of meth and marijuana in a foil wrapping in a ditch where Williams was lying.

A search warrant was then executed on Williams' residence, which resulted in the arrests of Smith and Hunter, who were inside the residence. Officers reported finding a glass marijuana pipe, digital scales, a pipe used to smoke meth and a clear plastic bag containing meth residue. Smith and Hunter both denied any knowledge of the items inside the house.

Spice arrest

On June 29, John Staley, 63, 96 Weston Drive, East Brewton, was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance (spice) following a traffic stop.

Cpl. Branden Mealer pulled over a truck because the driver had outstanding warrants for his arrest in Covington County. Mealer reported as he talked with Staley he could smell the odor of spice. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of spice rolled up in a cigar.
