Church gives fans to beat heat

Flomaton resident Solomon Odom was the first recipient of a new fan presented this week by the Flomaton Fire Department, which received 50 fans thanks to Joey Johnson, pastor of Abundant Life in Century and Steve Creamer.

Fire Chief Steve Stanton said Johnson and Creamer approached him and offered to purchase the 50 fans for the fire department to give out to needy people in the Flomaton and Century area. Stanton said he got Flomaton Councilwoman Lillian Dean involved to help him make sure the people needing the fans really needed them.

“We don't want people to take a fan because they want a fan, we want to give fans to people who need fans,” Stanton said. “It's hot now and it's going to get hotter later. I can't say enough about Steve Creamer and Pastor Johnson for reaching out to help.”

Solomon, 86, lives on Martin Luther King Drive in Flomaton and said the fan was a blessing.

He said the air conditioning in his residence is just too cold and the fan will be just perfect.

“I was born and raised here in Flomaton,” Solomon said. “This is much needed.”

Stanton said if anyone needs a fan they can contact him at 850-393-8807.
