We may sound like a broken record, but if you live in Flomaton and you get this issue of the Tri-City Ledger before 1 p.m. today (Thursday), you need to be at town hall.
We've written about it, people have talked about it, people have called us about it, but you will hear the ins and outs of a possible Form Based Code being implemented in Flomaton at the 1 p.m. meeting in the council chambers.
As we've said before, whether the Flomaton Town Council decides to go in this direction will depend on what the tax-paying citizens of Flomaton tell their mayor and council.
The final decision by the council can set the landscape for this town for generations to come. The concept is to create a healthy environment to help Flomaton attract new businesses and new jobs that also create new tax dollars and put people to work.
Will it work in Flomaton? We don't know and you won't know unless you come to this meeting at 1 p.m. today. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about how Form Based Code will affect your property; you'll be able to ask questions about how much will it cost the town to implement such a plan.
From what we've studied, we like the concept. What we hear today may change our minds. But we will be there with an open mind to see if this program can help Flomaton grow economically.
All we ask is that you come in with an open mind, listen and ask questions. This could be a great opportunity for the town of Flomaton to prosper and grow into the future.
The mayor and the council are elected by the people and it's up to the people to tell them what direction they would like to see the town go.
