Wiley B. Tait, Sr.

Wiley B. Tait, Sr., 81, died Thursday, April 25, 2019.

Mr. Tait was born June 27, 1937, to Will and Nancy Tait in Atmore. He relocated to Detroit, Mich. where he became employed by General Motor Company and became president of United Auto Workers in Detroit. He relocated back to Atmore, where he was a member of the greater Mt. Triumph Baptsit Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher. He also served as County Commissioner District 5 for 12 years in Escambia County and was awarded the Rosa Parks Award in 2011.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Revs. Willie Hawthorne and Alfonze Williams. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Tait is survived by his wife, Vivian Thompson Tait; two sons, Wiley Tait, Jr. and Nick Thompson, both of Atmore; four daughters, Gwendolyn Clark and Shelly Tait, both of Atlanta, and Anita Howard of Detroit and Angel Howard of Phoenix, Az.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tait was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Willie Tait.
