Council OKs sign funds

The Flomaton Town Council agreed to put $500 in an account at United Bank and $500 in an account at Escambia County to start funds to raise $43,910 to install four signs honoring Flomaton High School's championship teams as well as paint the water tower on Highway 31 to read 'Welcome to Flomaton, Home of the Hurricanes'.

“I feel like we can raise the money,” Mayor Dewey Bondurant said. “It would really make the town look good. I'd like to try.”

Residents and former residents can make donations to the project at either bank. Bondurant said if the project fails the money collected will be returned to the donors.

Bondurant said his plan is to erect the 4x8 signs coming into Flomaton with one on Highway 113, one on Highway 31 as people come in from Brewton, one on Highway 31 as people come in from Atmore and one on Highway 29 at the overpass.
