Jay man jailed for drugs

A Jay man stopped for running a stop sign April 19 has been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after a vehicle search when a drug canine made a positive alert on his vehicle.

Michael George Rasmussen, 41, 2880 Cobbtown Road, was the driver of a truck that sat for several minutes at an intersection in Milton, observed by nearby deputies, according to a Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office report.

The deputies decided to check on the driver and observed the truck disobey a stop sign at another intersection and initiated a traffic stop, the report said.

As a deputy wrote a citation to Rasmussen, another canine deputy arrived on scene and conducted an open air sniff. The deputy advised his canine made a positive alert on the vehicle, the report stated.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they could smell the odor of marijuana. Upon completion of the search, the deputies found a glass mason jar with a large amount of marijuana in the tool box located in the bed of the truck, according to the report.

Rasmussen admitted he smoked marijuana regularly in an interview. The report said there were two separate baggies of marijuana with one labeled 'keep' and the other labeled 'sell' and a digital scale, the report said.

Rasmussen was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession (more than 20 grams), transported to Santa Rosa County Jail and given a bond of $5,000.
