Search warrants lead to one arrest

Two suspects wanted in East Brewton; three jailed for drugs after traffic stops

East Brewton police had warrants for the arrest of two people on felony drug charges, but when one of the warrants was served Tuesday night a third suspect was arrested on multiple drug charges while the two targets remain at large.

Brianna Stewart, 23, 119 Adams St., East Brewton, was jailed Tuesday on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana I, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child.

According to reports from the East Brewton Police Department, officers went to the 119 Adams St., address with a warrant for the arrest of Joseph Lawrence II, 20, with the same address. Lawrence is wanted for distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana I.

Police reported when they arrived at the residence they made contact with the homeowner who told them Lawrence had just left the residence. Sgt. Paige Howell reported he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home and the homeowner gave a consent to search the residence.

The report noted police found pipes, 476 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, codeine cough syrup and digital scales.

Lawrence was not located and police are still searching for him.

A second warrant was for James Paul Bryant Busby, 27, 1420 Shoffner St., East Brewton, who is wanted on charges of distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana I. Busby was not located. Police said Busby drives a red convertible with tag number 30CJ737.

Drug arrests

Ida May Walston, 21, 210 Ball Lane, Lot 45, Brewton, was arrested by East Brewton police following an investigation into her possibly selling marijuana.

She was arrested without incident and charged with distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana I.

Two separate traffic stops on March 30 sent two people to jail on drug charges.

Karen Rakel Samuel, 22, 302 Florida St.,, East Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy), giving false information to law enforcement, unlawful possession of marijuana II and several failure to appear warrants.

According to reports East Brewton Police Cpl. Brandon Mealer pulled over a green BMW for having an expired tag. He reported the driver gave him a false name and also reported he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana and one Ecstasy pill.

Tyler James McGlothlin, 25, 140 Holy Drive, Brewton, was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana II following a traffic stop for speeding.

Cpl. Mealer reported he stopped the vehicle on Forrest Avenue and as he was talking to the driver he smelled the odor of marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a bag of marijuana in the center console.
