Search nets drugs, guns

A Century man is facing 10 felony counts drug and weapon-related charges after law enforcement executing a search warrant discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, and weapons at the residence.

Sim Brown, III, 24, 401 Bonwell St., was arrested March 28 when officers executing a search warrant gained entrance to the residence and found several bags of suspected methamphetamine in bags that fell on the floor when officers placed the suspect on the ground and floating in the toilet bowl of the bathroom, and other drugs, weapons and ammunition according to an Escambia County Sheriff's Office report.

The charges Brown is facing are trafficking methamphetamine; possession of cocaine with intent to sell, manufacture and/or deliver within 100 feet of a worship center; possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacture and/or deliver within 100 feet of a worship center; possession of synthetic cannabinoids with intent to sell, manufacture and/or deliver within 100 feet of a worship center; possession of a controlled substance (Suboxone Schedule III) with intent to sell, manufacture and/or deliver within 100 feet of a worship center; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of a short barrel shotgun; destruction of evidence; resisting an officer without violence; keeping a public nuisance structure for drug activity; and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report stated.

A digital scale with marijuana and cocaine residue in a bedroom, smoking pipes, and 10 Suboxone strips, along with several weapons and ammunition, were discovered at the residence, the report said.

When authorities entered the residence, Brown was observed inside the bathroom attempting to close the bathroom door, where he ignored loud verbal commands to put his hands behind his back.

A search of a silver Chrysler with a Florida tag at the residence revealed marijuana on the driver's floorboard, the report said.

An officer used Google Maps to measure the distance from the residence to Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and the distance was estimated at 635 feet, prompting a felony charge of possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, manufacture and /or deliver within 1000 feet of a worship center, according to the report.

The total weights for the controlled substances found were: 901.7 grams methamphetamine; 24.6 grams powder and crack cocaine; 400.6 grams marijuana; synthetic cannabinoids 260.3 grams, the report said.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Jail where he was given a total bond for all charges of $302,000.

The report noted that officers interviewed Brown's sister, Precious Elliot, who was living at the residence for a couple of months and Elliot said she did not have any knowledge of Brown selling narcotics and DCF will be contacted in reference to five juvenile children, whose parents are witnesses Precious Elliott and Ariel Elliott, who were present during the search warrant.
