Lowell Stephen 'Gingerboy' McGill, Sr.

Lowell Stephen “Gingerboy” McGill, Sr., 84, died Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Atmore.

Mr. McGill was a native of Perdido, Ala. who had resided in Atmore for the past 62 years. Employed at WATM as a disc jockey, he worked for FEMA, was the voice for the Atmore Blue Devils, taught school at Bratt in Century and McCullough, was principal at McCullough, founder of Tri City Ledger and Atmore News, and a writer for Atmore Advance. In the past he coached Little League Baseball and was a member of the Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at the Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. James Boyd officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. McGill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ouida Troutman McGill of Atmore; three sons, Lowell Stephen “Steve” (Janet) McGill, Jr., Mark (Suzanne) McGill and Bryan Wade (Farrah) McGill, all of Atmore; three sisters, Glennes McGill Hadley of Perdido, Patricia “Princess” (Dale) Cooper of Atmore and Diane McGill Weaver of Silverhill, Ala.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. McGill was preceded in death by his parents, Reese and Ruth McGill.
