Police say suspect tried to swallow cocaine

Brewton man accused of trying to swallow 12.1 grams of coke to hide it from police

A Brewton man who attempted to flee East Brewton police on foot is facing multiple charges including tampering with evidence for allegedly trying to swallow 12.1 grams of cocaine before the cops could find it.

Terrez McKenzie, 41, 115 Lowell St., Brewton was arrested March 1 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and fleeing or attempting to elude police. He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center and is being held on $100,000 bond.

According to reports filed by the East Brewton Police Department, Officer Brandon Mealer initiated a traffic stop at the Kangaroo Station in East Brewton. While Officer Mealer was talking to MeKenzie, who was a passenger in the vehicle, he reported McKenzie attempted to flee and was tackled in the parking lot by police that also included auxiliary officers Chuck Wiggins and Charles Land.

Officers then recovered marijuana, digital scales and $959 in cash.

While in custody, officers reported McKenzie attempted to swallow the 12.1 grams of cocaine, but was unsuccessful.
