Class of 1976 'rings' for FHS

Graduates raise $3,000 toward purchase of championship rings

The 1976 graduating class of Flomaton High School came together to show their support, appreciation and congratulations to the 2018 Hurricanes on the Class 3A state football championship by raising $3,000 to go toward the championship rings for the players.

Flomaton defeated Piedmont 23-12 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn to bring the state title to Flomaton for the first time in its history after playing football for 94 years.

"We were just so excited for them," said Cathy Green a 1976 FHS graduate. "We are so proud of the team, the coaches, the quarterback club, the community and more. We know a lot of hard work and dedication went into winning the championship and these rings will be something they can be proud of for the rest of their lives."

Chris Spann, quarterback club president, said the community has stepped up on the ring project by raising about $18,000. He said a total of about $21,000 is needed to purchase all the rings. He said he hopes to raise the other $3,000 by Feb. 13 when the payment is needed.

"We're getting close," he said. "The community has really stepped up."

Spann said an account has been set up at Escambia County Bank for anyone wanting to make a donation. He also said anyone wanting to make a donation toward the rings can contact him at 251-359-1833 or any quarterback club member.

"This ring is something these players worked hard for," he said. "There have been a lot of football players come through Flomaton dreaming of getting a championship ring. It's something special."
