Charmain Deuel Pope

Charmain Deuel Pope, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.

Mrs. Pope was born Jan. 16, 1932, to Homer Roswell and Victoria Kinsler Deuel in Castleberry, Ala. A 1950 graduate of Conecuh High School and a 1954 graduate of Troy University, her teaching career began at Brewton Elementary School in the fall of 1954. Teaching fifth grade for 9 years in Brewton and then for 27 years in Castleberry, she taught children's Sunday School, directed the children's choir, served as a member of several boards and libraries, playing piano at the First Methodist Church and later teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Brewton.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Cavin Cawthon officiating. Burial followed at Buffington Cemetery in Castleberry with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Pope is survived by one daughter, Vick (Larry) Fussell of Brewton; one brother, Charley (Janice) Deuel of Mobile; and three grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wayne Pope; and her parents.
