Century and Atmore kick off season

The Century Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the holidays with an Open House scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13. The Century Welcome Center will be decorated with Christmas and a table full of food. The public is invited to join in kicking off the season.

The town’s lighting of the Christmas tree at Nadine McCaw Park will be at 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30. The Byrneville Elementary Chorus will sing Christmas carols as the tree is being lighted.

The Century Christmas Parade will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, on Hecker Road at Pensacola State College. The tentative schedule is 10 a.m. for parade line-up, 10 to 10:30, floats will be judged for wackiest, prettiest and most creative categories. By 10:45 a.m., all floats, vehicles and parade units must be in line for the 11 a.m. parade route to proceed. The parade will end back at the starting point at 12 p.m., when certificates will be awarded to the winners of the float contest. Participants will be notified of any changes prior to the event. Lace up your running shoes and get ready for the Century Chamber's first annual Century Cross Country Classic, a 5K Run and Half Mile Fun Run fundraiser, hosted by Matt and Teresa Dobson on Jan. 26, 2019.

The run will begin and end at Anthony Pleasant Park and wind through Showalter and other areas of Century.

There will be first, second and third prizes given in various age divisions, for overall male and female running times and participation ribbons for all Half Mile Fun Run participants. Sponsorships in the amount of $250, $150 and $50 will be offered and those sponsors' names will appear on the back of T-shirts with a logo designed by Teresa Dobson for the event. Pre-registration for participants will be $20 and $25 the day of the race.

Atmore

Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce will host Music On Main Street in Atmore from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 15. Entertainment will be the Shane Harrell Band playing on Louisville Avenue.

This after hours event will feature music, shopping and dining opportunities throughout downtown including: Atmore Flower Shop, Tot Shop, Pandas For Paws, K9 Kleaners, First Nation Bank and Trust, Tiger Lilly-A Children's Boutique, Southern Addictions, Your Little Pink Boutique, 30 Below, Cotton and Co., The Philanthropic Seed, Vin-Tiques, The Yellow Garden, The Petal Pusher, The Alabama Wing House, Gather, The Pride of Atmore at The Strand, with more being added daily.

The Atmore Chamber will be providing a complete list of participating businesses on Tuesday, November 13.

Come celebrate with the Chamber in a celebration with a new tradition of holiday window decorating from Nov. 16 to Dec. 6.

Voting begins November 15 and ends December 5. More information to come on where to pick up a ballot and a full list of participants.
