Town may get $14K from CTA; approves recommendations

The Town of Century could receive as much as $14,000 as a fee for approving bond issuance through the Capital Trust Agency (CTA) for SGSL Fee Owner LLC, a for-profit company, to acquire and convert a hotel to a senior assisted living facility and memory care facility in Sunrise, Fla.

CTA representative Michael Stebbins approached the council Monday night to approve the bond issuance through a resolution amending the interlocal agreement between the town of Century and the City of Gulf Breeze. Neither municipality will be responsible for repaying the bonds.

The Sawgrass Grand Senior Living facility will consist of about 194 senior living units and has a public purpose of providing gainful employment, making a significant contribution to the economic growth of the local community, promoting commerce within the State of Florida, providing safe, decent and accessible facilities for the elderly and advancing the economic prosperity and the general welfare of the State of Florida.

The fee schedule is based on $350 per millions, with a minimum of $36 million and a maximum of not more than $40 million.

In a motion made by Councilwoman Sandra McMurray Jackson and seconded by Councilman Luis Gomez, the motion carried.

In other business, the council approved other items including:

- a $5,000 grant from Volunteer Florida for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to fund implementation and continuing of the program.

- State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP) Program funds through the Escambia County Neighborhood Enterprise Division for $75,000 toward the costs of repairing housing units occupied by eligible families participating in the town's CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Program.

- the Historic Preservation Board's recommendation to approve the construction of a handicapped ramp at 401 Front Street, located in the Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company Residential Historic District.

- the Historic Preservation Board's recommendation to approve the construction of a metal fence, subject to an application for a variance, 6 feet tall in the front yard of a residence located at 7460 Mayo Street as a non-contributing structure within the Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company Residential Historic District.

- the application for a variance of 4-foot non-transparent material to allow construction of a 6-foot metal fence at aforementioned residence to provide for hardship relief.

-that metal shipping containers shall not be allowed as an accessory or storage building within the historic district, per the Town of Century Land Development Code.

- an amendment to an ordinance reducing fences on side and rear yards from 8 feet to 6 feet tall.

- Mayor Henry Hawkins' request to pay Bayside Fire of Pensacola a total of $730 to inspect the sprinklers at the Agriculture Building on Highway 4 and the Helicopter Technology Building at Century Industrial Park.

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m., on Monday, Nov.19, 2018.
