Local catches big hit in Braves game

Flomaton's Cruz Odom, 17, played a lot of baseball growing up but probably made his most important catch on Aug. 28, in Atlanta when he hauled in Tampa Bay's Brandon Lowe's first career homerun in the big leagues.

Seated in the front row in dead center field, Lowe cracked the first homerun of his major league career and ended up landing in Odom's glove.

As soon as Cruz secured the ball a security crew came and took him and the ball to the visitor club. He was greeted by a representative from Tampa Bay.

"They told me it was his first homerun and asked what I would take for it," Odom said. "I've always wanted a game-used bat or at least a signed ball."

Cruz turned the ball over and received another game-used ball. When his father went to the mailbox Tuesday morning he found a box addressed to Cruz. Inside the box was a signed baseball bat from Lowe, which looks identical to the one he used to get his homerun.

"It was just one of those moments," Cruz said. "I was in the right place at the right time."
