Profound sadness for the loss of innocence

It's hard to watch human beings drift away into certain danger. Our society has surely become coarse, but we still have compassion for our fellow man. We don't like to see anyone hurt especially the innocent. Physical danger to another is frightening, but spiritual danger not only scares us - it saddens us. Those that willingly choose their poison are the most pathetic. Too many families have endured the gut wrenching self-destruction of loved ones sinking into addiction and slowly succumbing to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or sex.

The Drag Queen Story Hour made its beachhead in the Deep South with more than a little fanfare from a couple hundred LGBTQ activists chanting about love and "free hugs" for all; and plenty of flourishes with many sporting colorful rainbows and some provocative attire. The LGBTQ activists were giddy at the opportunity to flamboyantly flaunt their fetishes in public; they were actually festive, but their rowdy smiling display belied the ominous warnings for our society.

A smaller determined group of Christians organized by the local Tea Party group, the Common Sense Campaign, came to show their adamant disapproval of any public institution promoting highly inappropriate behaviors or materials for children. But they also desperately wished to share the love of Jesus with the LGBTQ activists; and show them that Jesus loves everyone so much that he died for all our sins. He sacrificed himself, so that we could all be forgiven. So that we could all be liberated from the earthly bondage of sin. So that we could all be saved from eternal damnation.

It was a hard sell because LGBTQ activists and some liberal Christians countered that Jesus loves them as they are and intolerance of their alternative lifestyles was simple hatred. God undoubtedly created all of us and loves all of us, but He calls us to choose between the deceptions of this world and spiritual truth. They confuse carnal lusts with spiritual love, so they fervently believe the urges of the flesh are love and therefore approved by God. They avoid the fact that God is holy and calls us to a higher plane, but He will absolutely judge us for our choices.

True love does not buy more alcohol for an alcoholic or take an obsessive gambler to a casino; and it does not encourage sexual deviants to indulge their perversions. True love shows compassion but more important, it shows the way to redemption. Endorsing people in their sins is the opposite of love; it is actually the grossest deception of hatred. It's like pushing them off the cliff into hell.

The deleterious effects of spreading alternative lifestyles are already taking their toll. Pop culture has confused the younger generations about morality such that they subscribe to relativism and embrace the deceptions of carnal lust has actual love. A recent report by Brigham and Women's Hospital found that 25% of college students were diagnosed with mental illness and 20% had suicidal thoughts. Already alarming, but the rates for those engaging alternative lifestyles was much higher. Two thirds of transgender students reported self-harm and a third had attempted suicide. More than half of bisexual students reported acts of self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

Largely unreported, our younger generations are suffering an epidemic tragedy; they have bought the devil's lie that indulging your demons is just fine because Jesus loves you anyway. They are hostage to sin because society misleads them into believing God condones anything you like to do. Since they consider morality old fashioned and unenlightened, they can't grasp the solution is forgiveness, repentance, and redemption.

As each group of parents entered the Ben May Library in Mobile bringing their children to hear the Drag Queen Story Hour, the assembled LGBTQ activists erupted with applause. One must wonder if history is repeating. Did the ancient Israelites cheer every time another child was sacrificed to the ancient god, Baal? Watching little children being drug into the dark foreboding deceptions of this world was simply heart breaking.

One can only imagine the utter disappointment of Moses when he came down from Mount Sinai with the Word of God to see his people reveling in fornication and worshipping idols. The LGBTQ proponents say it's harmless; it's only tolerance and acceptance. While watching people insist abject immorality is aggravating, watching children lose their innocence to the lies of this world evokes profound sadness.

Pray for those lost souls; and God have mercy on all of us.
