The Jay Town Council approved the zoning changes from single family residence to commercial needed for a Golden Gin Development Application that was submitted to the town to build a proposed 32,000 square foot warehouse building on Highway 89.
“We want to make certain the driveway requirements are met, with ingress and egress, as well as the 6-inch water line that is going to be required for the sprinkler system in the building,” said Mayor Shon Owens. “We currently don't have a fee in place for 6-inch, we have it for 1-inch, three quarter and 2-inch, but we don't have anything in place for a 6-inch.”
Councilwoman Jane Hayes asked if there was a fee for the 6-inch line that went into the assisted living facility in Jay and Owens said since it was such a specialty item they will need to look back at the meeting minutes and see what fees were incurred, including any fees for boring that had to be done.
Council members discussed the current driveway and any landscaping questions that may need to be looked at, including the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) requirements.
“I don't know that in this particular application, landscaping is required,” said Owens. “But I am sure it is something that we will want to address with any type of ordinance we have in place for landscaping.”
Owens said he just wanted to make sure to look at everything and make certain nothing else is needed, although he is in favor of moving forward with the project.
In a motion made by Hayes to approve the zoning changes and building site, which was seconded by Owens, the motion carried.
