Sawmill Day has long history in Century

We had a great time at Sawmill Day, May 5th. Thank to those who came. If you were at one of the many other activities going on that same days, maybe you can make it to us next year. I hope the other events had as good a turnout as we did. Sawmill Day is about many things: museum tours, contests, the fantastic car show (Thanks, Diane and Mike for this.), the vendors and displays, good food, and especially a chance to see old friends and make new ones. Our thanks to all those who supported us by putting up a booth, putting a car in the car show, participating in our contests, buying lunch at our food booth, or just coming by and visiting a while. Thanks to all ASHS members who volunteered their time getting ready for the day and manning a post during the day's activities. Keep in mind the other local towns that will be having festivals this year. Some that I know about are: Flomaton's Railroad Day in September, Baker and Munson (I believe they are both in October.) and Barnett Crossroads in December. I hope to be able to attend these festivals, maybe I'll see you there.

We encourage the community to make use of James Houston Jones Historic Park (our compound at 4th and Jefferson in Century – 610 4th Street). Our picnic area is available for use at any time. Old 100, our restored Alger Sullivan engine, is always on view. Our museums are open Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm and anytime by appointment (call me 850-417-9803 or Jerry Fischer 850-256-3980.). If you are picnicking and decide you want to have a museum tour, look at the front door of the Leach House Museum and start calling the numbers on the sign until you find someone who is able to come let you in.

All are invited to visit our meetings the third Tuesday of every month at 6 pm in the Leach House (The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 15th). I always enjoy the speakers telling what they know about the history of our area. You're also invited to join; dues are only $5.00 a year.
