Jay man faces charges

A Jay man who was found sleeping behind the steering wheel of his car at a stop sign in Flomaton was arrested on drug charges after officers discovered methamphetamine in his possession.

Jimmy L. Johnson, 48, 14392 Highway 87 North, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police reports, Flomaton Officer William Mosely was on patrol about 2:30 a.m. on April 21 when he pulled up to the intersection of College and Ringold streets. He noticed another vehicle wasn't moving at the stop sign. After several seconds the officer motioned with his hands for the driver to move on but nothing happened.

Mosely traveled through the intersection then got behind the vehicle and activated his blue lights. He exited his vehicle and banged on the window but got no response. A second patrol car pulled in front of the vehicle and noticed the driver was asleep.

The officers continued to bang on the window and Johnson finally woke up. As Mosely patted the suspect down for officer safety he reported feeling a bulge in his left sock. He reported Johnson told him he didn't know what it was and gave the officer permission to removed the item.

Mosely retrieved a pipe and an orange bandana. The officer also found a clear green plastic bag in Johnson's pocket containing meth.

Inside the vehicle, officers found several more plastic bags and digital scales. Officers also found a tool bag that contained a larger amount of meth.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
