Jay attorney charged in DUI crash

Ivey driving wrong direction on Highway 31

A Jay attorney was charged with driving under the influence following a head-on collision Friday night on Highway 31 north of Flomaton where the woman was heading north in the southbound lane when she collided with an another vehicle.

Megan S. Ivey, 32, 5168 Robin St., Jay, was arrested following the crash that sent three other people to the hospital.

According to witnesses, Ivey was heading north when she crossed over to the sound bound lane of the four lane Highway and continued to travel north. Witnesses said an 18-wheeler tractor trailer rig heading south swerved and avoided colliding with Ivey's vehicle. Ivey's vehicle then struck an another car head on about a half-mile north of the Frank P. 'Skippy' White Bridge.

Ivey was not injured. However, three occupants in the southbound vehicle were transported to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton by ambulance. The names of those victims were not available, nor their conditions.

Emergency personnel that include the Flomaton and Friendship fire departments and the Flomaton Police Department were dispatched at 8:29 p.m. to the collision.

Ivey stated at the scene that she was headed to Jay when the crash occurred. She was charged with DUI and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and later released on bond.

Reports filed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said while Ivey was traveling north in the southbound lane of Highway 31, a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Kristina Marie Hutto was traveling south and the two vehicles hit head on.
