Atmore man injured in boat crash

An Atmore man was one of two people injured in a boating accident that left a third person dead last Saturday in north Baldwin County.

Wesley Scott Feely, of Atmore, was operating his bass boat near the intersection of Miflin Lake and Tensaw River on Saturday, March 31, when it collided with the driver's side of a boat operated by Jackie Dewayne Cox of Pace, according to an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division press release.

The report said that both occupants were ejected into the water but were wearing personal flotation devices (PFDs). Several boaters who heard the boat crash rushed to assist and pulled Cox and his passenger, Lee Grandquest of Semmes, Ala., from the water and rendered first-aid.

Cox was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger, Grandquest, was flown to USA Medical Center in Mobile. Feely was treated at North Baldwin Infirmary Emergency Room and released, the report said. Grandquest was still in the hospital at the time of the press release.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Marine Patrol Divison.
