Council makes right decision

The Flomaton Town Council is on the right track as it reviews old leases and agreements with the Escambia County School Board concerning the use of Hurricane Park.

As Councilman Charlie Reardon said, leases and agreements reached in the 1980s are probably out of date and need to be revised.

Several issues keyed this discussion. One was looking out at the Little League field at 9 p.m. with two people playing and all the lights burning; another was when the high school locked the gates to the big baseball field.

We learned Tuesday night that the baseball field was locked because it had just been re-seeded. We also learned too many people have the combination to the locks that allow field lights to be turned on.

To us, those are issues that can be easily resolved with members of the town, the school board and the youth league sitting down and working out a solution.

It is a public park, but the Flomaton schools are one of the most important parts of this community. We all need to work together to make the park work for all citizens of Flomaton.

We don't see this as a major hurdle. We know the people who make decisions and we know those people will be reasonable if they can sit at a table and work out policies that suit everyone.

Our bet is that the park was built for our children. Granted adults enjoy the park and spend hours walking and jogging around the park.

The council is on the right track to simply take a breath and get all parties involved at the table to resolve any issues.
