Philip James Nordmeyer

Philip James Nordmeyer, 88, of Brewton, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017.

Mr. Nordmeyer was born in Glasgow, Mo. And had been a resident of Brewton since 1958. Retired from the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the aircraft carrier, Franklin D. Roosevelt as a navigator and pilot, he was also a flight instructor at N.A.S. Whiting Field and was owner and operator of Jernigan Nordmeyer for several years. He was an active member in the Brewton Rotary Club, served as past president of Exchange Student, was a founding member of First Progressive Bank, where he served on the Board of Directors, the American Legion, and the Naval Aviation Museum. He had served as president of both the Brewton Industrial Board and the Airport Committee and was the longest active member of St. Maurice Catholic Group, where he served as past president of the Parish Council. His squadron, VR-54, won the Noel David Trophy.

A Christian Mass was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at St. Maurice Catholic Church with Father Pat Madden, Rev. John Finklea and Dr. Robert DeFrancisco officiating. Burial followed with military honors at Union Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Nordmeyer is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Conville Nordmeyer of Brewton; one son, Fred (Lisa) Nordmeyer of Brewton; two daughters, Paula Henderson of Brewton and Margo (Buck) Adams of Brewton; one sister, Carol (Dean) McManus of Jackson, Mich.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mr. Nordmeyer was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Jernigan Nordmeyer; one brother, Charles Nordmeyer; one sister, Martha Perrey; one grandchild; and other family members.
