    Edward Russell Dubose was scheduled to go before the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles Wednesday seeking release from a life sentence he received for the 1988 kidnapping, rape, sodomy and murder of 16-year old Stephanie King.     An alert by Flomaton's new K-9 'Boo' led to the arrest of a Castleberry man and Brewton woman after officers reported finding methamphetamine inside their vehicle following a traffic stop. Tommy Ray Few, 51, Miller Road, Castleberry, and Erin Morgan Powell, 27, Herndon Lane, Brewton, were both charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.     A 23-year old man with addresses in Brewton and Birmingham was jailed on $100,000 bond on multiple drug charges that date back to 2020. Da'Quain Markail Kiser, with addresses listed in court records as 1403 43rd St. West in Birmingham and 216 East Jackson St., in Brewton, was charged with attempting to elude, six counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful possession of marijuana.     Students at Flomaton Elementary School will see a new principal this fall following the Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education's approval of Courtney McBride Monday. McBride will step in to take George Brown's place since Brown became Flomaton High School principal after Scott Hammond retired this summer.     Jay will kick off the Fourth of July weekend celebration this Saturday (July 3), Windcreek will follow on Sunday, July 4, and East Brewton will wrap things up Monday (July 5) with its annual duck race and fireworks at dark.     Late Wednesday the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles denied parole for Edward Russell Dubose, who pleaded guilty to the kidnapping, rape, sodomy and murder of 16-year old T.R. Miller High School student Stephanie King. Miss King was murdered on Oct. 22, 1988, after she was abducted from Alco Baptist Church. Dubose was originally found guilty by a jury and sentenced to death. His conviction was overturned and Dubose pleaded guilty and was given a life sentence with the possibility of parole.... Full story
