    A Flomaton man was arrested for theft charging him with defrauding an East Brewton man out of more than $10,000 by taking payment to repair roof damage after the June 19, 2021 tornado, but as of last week he had not replaced one single.     The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission voted Monday to add June 20, 2022, as a county holiday to coincide with the federal Juneteenth holiday. Congress approved Juneteenth as a federal holiday commemorating the day slavery ended in the United States – June 19,1865.   • The Junior Police Adademy fills up fast as Flomaton brings it back

    Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson told members of the town council he is bringing back the Junior Police Academy this summer and said once it was posted on Facebook the class was filled in about an hour. The academy was open for children ages 7 to 13 and Thompson said he had originally decided to limit it to 25, but ended up bringing in 39. The academy will be held from July 11 through July 15.   • Moore honored for his years of service

    The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission presented Brewton Attorney Thad Moore with a proclamation honoring him for his many years of service as the county attorney. Moore officially retired as the county attorney at the end of May. He has served as the county attorney since July 27, 1988. Moore thanked the commission and said it has been his pleasure to work with different commissioners over the years who were dedicated to county government.
