Traffic stop nets drug charges

Two East Brewton men were arrested on drug charges following routine traffic stops after the police department's K-9 detected illegal narcotics.

Terryl Jerome Jordan, 52, 1207 Dailey St., and Ryan Joseph Hammac, 34, 821 Dailey St., were both arrested on drug charges.

Jordan was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and failure to obey law enforcement.

According to police reports, Jordan was seen swerving across the center line and speeding about 8:45 p.m. on June 11 on Ridge Road and East Brewton Police Sgt. Paige Howell initiated a traffic stop.

The report noted as Howell attempted to run his drug dog around the vehicle, Jordan tossed a pipe containing meth into the woods.

Jordan was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and jailed on $10,000 bond. He remained in jail at press time Wednesday.

Hammac was the passenger of a vehicle Sgt. Howell stopped about 8:45 p.m., June 7 for speeding on Highway 41 near Riverview. A check revealed Hammac had outstanding felony warrants by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle and Sgt. Howell found a 'spice' (synthetic marijuana) cigarette under the seat where Hammac was sitting.

Hammac was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (spice) and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and was released on $2,000 bond.
