Roy McKinney, 62, died Friday, May 18, 2018, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola..

Mr. McKinney was born May 5, 1046, to Willie and Rosie Lee McKinney in Century, Fla. After graduating from G.W. Carver High School, he was employed with Atmore Pole for two years before he was drafted in the U.S. Army, where he served from 1967 to 1975. Awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, an Expert (M-14), an Expert (M-16), two Servcie Stripes, a Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device (First Oak Leaf Cluster), an Air Medal, an Army Commendation Medal and a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm (Purple Heart), he served six years at Dickford and 15 years to Perdido Trucking. He was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon on the Deacon Board.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Nathaniel Allen officiating. Burial followed with military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors directing.

Mr. McKinney is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann McKinney; four children, Hugh (Anita) McKinney and Charlene Davis, both of Century, Shaketha Cohen of Atlanta and Michelle Chester of Columbus, Ga.; three brothers, James (Cynthia) McKinney, Ollie (Eunice) McKinney and Ray (Arma) Allen, all of Century; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other family members.

Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willie Lee McKinney, Jr., Eugene Jack McKinney and Eric Quincy Allen; and one sister, Bobbie Jean Dixon.
