County receives $19,393 check

Representatives of the Escambia County Soil and Water Conservation District presented the county commission with a $19,393 check Monday as part of the Knott Road repair project noting that during fiscal year 2016-17 Natural Resources and Conservation programs had an impact in the county of more than $1.7 million.

Broox Garrett Jr., chairman of the Escambia County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Frank Nalty, the district’s secretary, presented the check from Fish and Wildlife Services to Commission Chairman Raymond Wiggins.

Garrett told commissioners $1,174,609.40 in cash flow directly affected Escambia County during fiscal year 2016-17.

“The Soil and Water Conservation District plays a key role in the delivery of NRCS programs in Escambia County, Alabama,” Garrett stated in a letter to the commission. “We share a common mission through these programs to assist clients that are protecting the natural resources of this county.”

A list of the $1.7 million impact on the county includes:

$285,326, total NRCS program funds paid to program participants in Escambia County.

$683,081.40.40, total NRCS funds obligated to program participants in Escambia County.

$206,202, total amount of technical assistance funds for salaries, overhead and cost of operation.
