Traffic stop leads to arrest for drugs

A Brewton man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Atmore, where officers recovered methamphetamine.

Malcolm Ross Pettis, 59, 6652 Appleton Road, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Atmore police reports, Pettis was the driver of a vehicle on Jan. 26 at 7:38 p.m. that was observed swerving and driving erratically.

Following a traffic stop, officers reported Pettis was acting nervous and acting strange. Pettis gave consent to search and officers stated they found meth dropped behind the car. Police also reported Pettis attempted to swallow another substance.

The report also stated Pettis became combative and was placed into cuffs and arrested.
