Council moves magistrate to purchasing
The town of Flomaton is now accepting applications for a municipal court clerk/magistrate following a personnel change at town hall to add a purchasing agent.
Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., told the town council Tuesday night when he was elected mayor the town had three people working in the front office, Keith Reaves served as the purchasing agent and David Adams was the utilities superintendent.
Bondurant said current superintendent Shaun Moye is overworked and asked the council to hire a purchasing agent. Bondurant said he would like to move current court clerk/magistrate LaJuana Reid into the purchasing agent position and advertise for a new clerk/magistrate.
Bondurant also told the council he would like to cross-train Reid and Town Clerk Shila Carter, noting when someone is sick or on vacation it causes problems in the front office.
The mayor also noted that himself, Carter, Moye and are the only people allowed to sign purchase orders for the town.
The council voted unanimously to add the purchasing agent and begin advertising for the clerk/magistrate position.
Applications will be accepted at town hall until Friday, Jan. 19. For more details see Page 6A.
In other business Tuesday, the council agreed to hire Marie Morris to work 19.34 hours a week at minimum wage at the Alabama Welcome Center and Flomaton Area Railroad Museum.
Mayor Bondurant told the council Kay Wagner is no longer able to handle that position.
The council also agreed to temporarily move some bleachers from Hurricane Park to Oaks Common Park for the Jan. 13 Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration. The council also agreed to barricade both ends of Martin Luther King Drive during the annual walk honoring the slain civil rights leader.
